Alewijn Slingerland is a London based silversmith from the Netherlands. Linking his interest of simple geometric principles common in architectural design with abstract expressism with in the arts of the last century, he creates unique and striking pieces of art.
Combining traditional craftmanship with modern metalworking techniques, he walks the line between history and the future.
Early life
Alewijn has always been busy making things out of wood when he was a child, but it was only until his mid teenage years where he started to get an appetite for metalwork. What started off with blacksmithing in his parents backyard with an improvised coal forge, quickly became something Alewijn knew he was going to make his career out of. Combining his creativity with craftsmanship.

Professional career
His passion for designing something functional initially drew him to furniture design, but eventually ended up at Vakschool Schoonhoven in Holland. This college has been offering apprenticeships and training for gold- and silversmiths for over 130 years.
To gain more experience in design, Alewijn moved to Engeland in 2022 where he studied at Bishopsland Educational Trust. After completing his studies there is started to work as a silversmith with Grant Macdonald in London.
